Autograph Letter Signed [to Thomas Grenville], 3 pages 8vo (hinged to a mount), London, 4 September ['1827' - endorsement by Grenville].
Explaining that he had expected to be writing to announce his appointment as secretary of the board of control.
'... I was however surprised this morning my Lord Goderich proposing to name me to the vacant office of Secretary of the Treasury to which I was indeed forthwith appointed. ...'
