Autograph Letter Signed to Merville, 3 pages 8vo (torn in the folds of the second sheet), Adyar, Madras, 21 November 1888. Offering his 'snake-stone', which has lost some of its power, no doubt due to the passage of time, and disucussing his imminent world-round tour.
'... The news from Japan is that the different sects are vying with each other in preparations to give me a rousing welcome, so you may fancy how I am to be bored with processions and ceremonies of sorts. ... Will you not now redeem your promise to send me the substance for scientific experiment on animals? ...'
