I feel excessive reluctance to cause expense of more than an ordinary amount on such occasions, and unless those who invite me feel themselves quite sure that they are right, and that there is honest reason to believe that no injury will eventually accrue to the friends from such a charge upon them, I cannot think myself justified in being accessary to it by my complicance with their request ...'
