STREET, George Edmund (1824-1881). Architect.
Autograph Letter Signed to The Rev E[dward] Walford (1823-1897, compiler, editor of biographical works etc), 2 pages 8vo, 14 Cavendish Place, 2 May 1874. Suggesting that his assistant, Tanner, would show Walford the plans for the Law Court if he took this note to his office.
'... There was a very full & elaborate account of these written by Mr ?Bentell in the Building News some two years ago (October 1871) which might save you trouble if you cd. refer to it.'
The Law Courts, together with the National Gallery, was one of Street's greatest accomplishments. Although the competition for the design was announced in 1866 the work was still unfinished at his death in 1881.
