Autograph Letter Signed to Charlemagne Tower, 3 pages 8vo with envelope (small nick from one corner, not affecting the text), Washington, 30 June 1871. Sending diplomatic papers for Tower's son (presumably Charlemagne Tower, 1848-1923 businessman and diplomat) who was travelling in Spain.

'... To my dismay I find the packet has sailed. But can you not send direct to Cadiz ... I enclose a letter for our Minister, - also a circular letter especially to our consuls; but which may be used where occasion requires. I hope your son will make head-way in the language. Let him read & talk Spanish & his travels will be a multiplied lesson. ...'
