ROTHES, John Leslie, 1st Duke of (1630-1681). Privy Councillor.
Letter Signed to the Lord of Call[the rest unreadable], ½-page folio with integral address-leaf (somewhat soiled), Holyrood House, 30 January 1666/7. Urgently requesting a meeting.
'Having something to Communicate with you I shall desire that as soon as possible & with all Convenient hast you may repaire hither to this place & speake with him who is
Much honored
Rothes'
Rothes led a chequered career, having been captured at Worcester, subsequently imprisoned by Cromwell in Edinburgh to prevent a duel between him and Lord Morpeth, who was jealous of his attentions to his wife, accompanied Charles II on his return to England and was rewarded with titles and power.
